BY LOREEN BERLIN: It's been said that the "Lifetime Eagle Scout" is but a small percentage of Scouts enrolled in the Boy Scouts of America program.<\/p>\n

However, three Boy Scouts of America in Garden Grove are adding to the rising-number of Eagle Scouts since the inception of the award in 1912.<\/p>\n

Scouting groups are sponsored by organizations and\/or churches, through volunteers.<\/p>\n

Those Scouts are Joshua Baird, Nicholas Cable and Michael Stoughton.<\/p>\n

However, three Boy Scouts of America in Garden Grove are adding to the rising-number of Eagle Scouts since the inception of the award in 1912.<\/p>\n

Scouting groups are sponsored by organizations and\/or churches, through volunteers.<\/p>\n

Those Scouts are Joshua Baird, Nicholas Cable and Michael Stoughton.<\/p>\n

"I think it's great that we have three Eagle Scouts in one troop, Troop No. 225," said Stanford LDS Ward Bishop Kelly Thomer. "Three at one time doesn't happen very often. These three young men will be well prepared for life.”<\/p>\n

The three Scouts from Troop No. 225 were honored Saturday evening at the sponsoring LDS Church, Stanford Ward, located at 10212 Stanford Ave., in Garden Grove.<\/p>\n

Joshua's Eagle Scout project was constructing a wall-unit for the Mental Health Association of Orange County, which helps the homeless to have a place to store their backpacks.<\/p>\n

Nicholas built shelves for the Thomas House Family Shelter, which houses homeless families and helps them become independent again.<\/p>\n

Michael cleaned and documented images of headstones at Magnolia Memorial Park as part of a program to archive those interred in the cemetery for families tracing genealogy and a way to build or continue creating an individual's family tree, with QR (Quick Response) codes. This particular cemetery has a lot of history, with several Civil War veterans buried there.<\/p>\n

The young men were each given an opportunity to acknowledge a mentor who had helped them achieve their Eagle goal and then to tell about their experience.<\/p>\n

”My path to becoming an Eagle Scout was a long one," said Joshua. "I want to thank my Scout leaders for their sacrifice of time and thank them for not giving up on me.”<\/p>\n

He thanked his parents who worked with him by reminding him to keep on the project.<\/p>\n

"I love you and want to make you proud," he said. "I want to thank the members of the Ward for your support and money you donated for my project; you were invaluable to a young man who knew nothing of what he was doing — the experience will benefit me the rest of my life.”<\/p>\n

"I made it," said Nicholas. "I'm very happy I made it; I started Scouts when I was a little wild child, but my leaders helped me to grow and shaped me into who I am. Scouting has been an adventure. I learned cycling and hiking and it opened so many things that I can now do, even though it was scary. My leaders helped and encouraged me to become an Eagle —  it's been a goal for quite awhile — and I thank my parents for pushing me.”<\/p>\n

Michael said becoming an Eagle has been an amazing journey.<\/p>\n

"I had so many experiences and adventures. I would not be the same person without Scouting," he said. "Scouting has shaped me into being the person God would want me to be and the experience taught me how to live. Even the little experiences I'm grateful for and grateful for my parents pushing me and for everything they do for me. I’m grateful for the leaders and appreciate friends who helped with my Eagle project. I’m thankful for everyone."<\/p>\n

Scout leaders along the way included Varsity Coach and Venture Advisor Norman Hauret; Scout Master David Price; Varsity Coach Glenn Davis; Varsity Scout Leader Brian Cable; Assistant Venture Advisor David Baird; and Scout Leader Thomas Stoughton.<\/p>\n

"This is a solemn and serious evening for these boys, as the road to Eagle Scout has been a long and difficult one but full of fun and great experiences," said Price. "The parents and Scout leaders of the Eagle candidate's whom we honor tonight have labored long and faithfully to guide them through the Boy Scout program and their efforts culminate this evening in the presentation of the Eagle Award.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
