\n\t <\/span>The American Cancer Society's first "Bark for Life" festival and walk for dogs with their owners was held Saturday, June 8, at the Village Green Park, 12732 Main St. in Garden Grove.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe event was to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer for dogs.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThose supporting the event helped the American Cancer Society in its effort to save pet lives, with the ultimate goal of a world that has less cancer and more birthdays.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tOrganizer and two-time breast cancer survivor Linda Wochner said the Bark for Life event is the fundraising portion and spin-off of the annual Relay for Life but for dogs.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t"<\/font><\/font><\/span>This honors dog and human survivors," she said. "The dogs are also our caregivers for cancer survivors and we honor the dogs for those reasons and we'll be back here every year."<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tLinda said their group wants to get the word out about not only the Bark for Life but the upcoming Relay for Life for the city of Garden Grove.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe morning began with a walk around Village Green Park, with owners and their dogs and ended in the early afternoon with a closing ceremony walk.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the festivities, there was a demonstration of “Fly-ball” for the dogs, which is relay racing for dogs.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThere were also other contests, raffles, games and competitions for the best dog tricks, a prize for Miss Congeniality and owner\/dog Look-a-like to name a few.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tFor a $5 entry fee, each dog received a colorful bandana to wear. <\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tAt this one, no dogs nor alcohol are allowed.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
