\n\tGarden Grove Unified School District Public Information Officer Alan Trudell has announced his retirement after 32-years of service with the district. His last day was Friday, June 28.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tAfter his successor is named, Trudell will return to help orient the new PIO.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t“I have cherished my role with the district as a ‘behind the scenes’ person who has simply been here to support our teachers, principals, and other supporting staff,” Trudell said. “What we do here is to help students reach their fullest potential – we are in a support role to help teachers, administration and all other support personnel. I will miss the people; I've had a great job. I was hired July 1, 1981, so it's exactly 32 years – and I've had a fantastic experience working for the Garden Grove Unified School District and will cherish the memories of working with a group of talented and gifted colleagues. It's  <\/span>just simply time to move on into another stage of my life.”<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tTrudell said he has two young grandchildren who live nearby whom he's looking forward to spending more time with, and he's an avid cyclist.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t“I'll be riding my bike more often and doing chores around the house that I've neglected while working,” he said, smiling. “My wife Angie is still president of Serra Catholic Elementary School in Rancho Santa Margarita so she's not retiring yet,” he said. “We have three sons who all live nearby within 10 miles and they are all prospering in their jobs and marriages so I'm really blessed.”<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tWhat's next for Trudell?<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tTrudell said that in the past, he and his wife have taken vacations to South Florida and that's where they're headed now that he has retired – for a vacation in Florida.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tAsked if he will continue to work somewhere else, he said, “I might find a job doing something but nothing is formal now; maybe a part time job.”<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tTrudell was born in New Jersey, where at the age of 12, he moved with his family to Arizona;  <\/span>his family then moved  <\/span>to California where he has been living since he was 13 years of age.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t“I went to Carson High School and received my BA from Cal State Fullerton and have a very happy and fulfilling life, with a wonderful wife and an extraordinary job – and I'm grateful to have been part of this institution. I'm going, with a smile on my face.”<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tEven in high school, Trudell was planning his future, studying journalism and in college he also studied journalism and his BA major was in communications in public relations.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t“I have been fortunate to have a job in the field I was educated in and planned as my profession,” he said.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tPrior to being with the district, Trudell said he was in the newspaper business for seven years, even writing for the Orange County News, which was at that time, part of the <\/span><\/span>Knight Ridder<\/span><\/em> newspaper group, the second-largest <\/span><\/span>newspaper<\/span><\/em> <\/span><\/i><\/span>company in the United States.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tThe stories Trudell wrote for OCN (first known as Orange City News) would also appear in the Long Beach Press Telegram; that was right out of college when he worked as a photographer and reporter and he worked briefly for a daily newspaper in the city of Downey.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t“My background was in journalism and as a reporter, I covered the Garden Grove Unified School District and wrote feature stories on various subjects and covered the planning commission and the police beat,” he said.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tTrudell praised the district, saying that because of  <\/span>the leadership, the district will continue to thrive and provide the best education for students within the district.<\/o:p><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
