\nThe Garden Grove Stake, which has members from the cities of Stanton, Garden Grove, Anaheim, Westminster and Cypress held the annual celebration Saturday, July 20, at their Stake building, 10332 Bolsa Ave., in Westminster.

\nThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds an annual Pioneer Day throughout the nation to commemorate the arrival of their people by covered wagon and handcarts into the Salt Lake Valley, in Utah.
\nThe Garden Grove Stake, which has members from the cities of Stanton, Garden Grove, Anaheim, Westminster and Cypress held the annual celebration Saturday, July 20, at their Stake building, 10332 Bolsa Ave., in Westminster.
\nThere was a children’s parade with boys dressed in brown paper vests and girls in white-paper pioneer sun bonnets to symbolize the manner of dress in those early days.
\nOther activities included a bounce house and a dunk tank, along with a bean-bag toss through a covered wagon and singing of pioneer songs by the children.
\nSome participated in a larger-than-life checker game, where one young man at the ripe-old-age of 12, beat many of his older competitors in the game.
\nThose who wanted to, took part in cooking bread on a large-round stick over open coals, then added jams, jellies or honey to top off the treat.
\nDinner was hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, tossed salad and soup, served in buffet-style, as well as pioneer pastries.
\nThe day’s activities concluded with the singing of You’re a Grand Old Flag, This Land is Your Land and Come, Come Ye Saints(a song the pioneers sang as they crossed the plains.
\nThe song reads: Come, come ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear; but with joy, wend your way. Though hard to you, this journey may appear, grace shall be as your day; And should we die before our journey through hell; All is well, but if our lives are spared to see the Saints their rest obtain, oh how we’ll make this chorus swell and dash; All is well; all is well.
