\n\tIt posted a dominant 30-3 victory against Los Amigos on Friday, Sept. 13 at Western High in Anaheim.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tThe win helped the Centurions (3-0) stay unbeaten while the Lobos (1-1) suffered their first loss. Despite the final outcome, Cypress head coach Bob Burt confessed his team still has some work to do.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\t“It was a good effort, but I think we made way too many penalties,” Burt said. “Still, a win is a win – I’ll take it.”<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tCenturions’ quarterback Nick Buras, who recorded three touchdowns, gave the opposition fits on the ground and in the air. He completed 8-of-18 passes for 178 yards for a pair of touchdowns. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n\t“I thought our quarterback played exceptional,” Burt said. “Our kicker, too, having never played a varsity game.”<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tCypress kicker Aspen Smith, who booted a trio of field goals, drew first blood. He did the deed with a 38-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Smith later added field goals of 34 and 32 yards.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Centurions added 17 more points in the second quarter. Buras, who scrambled for 103 yards, scored a 27-yard run to take a 10-0 lead. He then connected with Quinten Pounds with a 28-yard strike.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tPounds finished with five catches for 140 yards. He later caught a wide-open pass for a 40-yard touchdown in the third quarter.  <\/span><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tAs for the Cypress defense, Pounds, Logan Burt and Matthew Mantong all had interceptions.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Lobos, who many experts believe will finish in the top 3 in the Garden Grove League, finally dented the board in the third quarter when kicker Brain Valdez split the uprights with a 30-yard field goal, which trimmed the deficit to 20-3.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Lobos struggled offensively, especially in the first half as they made three turnovers – two of them interceptions. The Centurions held the Lobos to just 5 yards in the air.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tLobos running back Eduardo Perez still found some success. He managed to run 12 times for a game-high 111 yards.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally, several Lobos played well on defense. That list included defensive end and team captain Alonzo Montes De Oca, who finished with two sacks and eight tackles.  <\/span><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\n\t“We never gave up,” Montes De Oca said. “We just couldn’t get anything going on offense, but we still played hard. I thought we gave a good defensive effort in the second half.”<\/font><\/p>\n

\n\tCypress wide receiver Tyler Hansen, who suffered a season-ending injury that required surgery, attended the game and watched from the sideline in a wheelchair.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
