\n\tSupervisor Janet Nguyen is inviting Orange County residents to attend the fifth annual Central County Health Expo on Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Concorde Career College in the city of Garden Grove.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe event is in collaboration with Lestonnac Free Clinic, the Central County Foundation, Mariners Church and Concorde Career College. Other sponsors are CalOptima, CD Video Manufacturing Inc., Costco, Garden Grove Disposal, Southern California Gas Company, Southern California Health Clinic and OC Parks. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Health Expo will feature free dental services (fillings, extractions, oral cancer screenings), medical services (prescriptions, lab work, EKG tests), social services (applications for Medi-Cal and CalFresh), as well as screenings for asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and obesity.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Expo’s focus on preventive care is designed to produce cost savings for the County of Orange by reducing health risks.<\/p>\n

\n\t“As a result of the Affordable Care Act, the cost of many people’s healthcare coverage has either increased or they’ve lost their coverage all together,” said Supervisor Nguyen. “Avoiding basic immunizations, screenings, and dental work can cause serious and expensive illnesses in the future. In providing preventative care to adults and children, we can avoid costly trips to the emergency room.”<\/p>\n

\n\tThe costs associated with emergency room visits are significant considering that the average emergency room visit costs more than an average month’s rent, as revealed by a study of the National Institute of Health Clinical Center.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis event has been successful in connecting patients to medical providers thanks to the hundreds of volunteers from the community, public agencies and private business who volunteer their time.
