\n\tGarden Grove High is hosting a summer passing league every Thursday at its home field, and on June 10 teams such as Cypress, Magnolia, and Foothill H.S. came out to compete.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn a 7-on-7 format, the teams line up without pads and run… passing plays. There are no full tackles on display but there is some highlight reel worthy receiving.<\/p>\n

\n\tRicardo Cepeda, the Argos new head football coach, is looking to build upon last year’s CIF final finish and to fill the role of his predecessor, Willy Puga.<\/p>\n
\n\t“We lost a lot of guys but we have a lot of good athletes coming back,” said Cepeda. “The goal is to keep it going and make it to the CIF finals again.”<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Argos have been to the CIF finals three times in the last four years, and their last title came in 2010 when they defeated Beckman High by one point in the final.<\/p>\n
\n\tFor the Argos, this summer’s passing league is a chance for underclassmen and seniors to show off their skills and to get noticed by their coach.<\/p>\n
\n\tReturning players Austin Christian and Allejandro Ceja are the guys to look out for in the receiving end. Both have been scouted and will be key in any success the Argos have in the upcoming season. <\/p>\n
\n\tChristian had a total of 724 receiving yards last year and a total of 13 touchdowns in the 2013 season. His average of about 20 yards per carry will be a huge asset to the Argos squad this year.<\/p>\n
\n\tCurrently, Christian has some offers from a couple of universities but he still remains undecided.<\/p>\n
\n\tAllejandro Ceja is also taking offers and will be looking to improve on his impressive form last year. He had a total of 628 receiving yards and ran in a total of 11 touchdowns last year.<\/p>\n
\n\tCeja looked impressive during Thursday’s passing league, out-jumping his opponents on several plays to make catches.<\/p>\n
\n\tReturning players from not only the varsity squad, but also the junior varsity squad is where coach Cepeda is looking to draw strength from.<\/p>\n
\n\t“Our JV team last year was really good, they were 9-1 on the season,” said Cepeda.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Argos will have a long road ahead of them to achieve CIF champion glory. If they do make it to the final they will be looking to get retribution from their losses from the previous two years.<\/p>\n
\n\tBoth losses were to Corona del Mar in the CIF final these last two years, and if Cepeda and his squad meet them again it will be quite the rematch.<\/p>\n
\n\tCepeda will be looking to start off his head coach career at Garden Grove in a winning fashion.<\/p>\n
\n\t“We still gotta figure it out but I’m hoping to have a successful season,” said Cepeda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
