\n\tThe LA Galaxy’s street team held a soccer skills clinic for children and their parents at an event hosted by the Garden Grove Elks fraternal organization on Saturday, Sept. 20 in Garden Grove.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Futboleros soccer entertainers that conducted the clinic are head of entertainment for the LA Galaxy. They perform their freestyle soccer before the Galaxy’s matches and they also perform a halftime show at home games. Their specialty is performing extremely difficult freestyle soccer moves as fluid and seamlessly as possible.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the middle of the day in the field behind the Elk’s lodge James Ortega, Futboleros founder and CEO, and two other Futboleros showed off impressive skills to a lively group of children that held high energy levels despite the weekend heat.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter their performance at the Elk’s lodge the Futboleros instructed the children how to perform some of the freestyle moves they just witnessed.<\/p>\n

\n\t“The Elks are apart of the LA Galaxy so we come out and do an annual clinic. This is our third year out here,” said Ortega.<\/p>\n

\n\tChildren from the immediate Garden Grove area attended and learned skills such as juggling and the scorpion kick. Ortega says that it’s the youth’s liveliness that’s gets him up out of bed in the morning.<\/p>\n

\n\t“It’s the kids. The motivation is seeing them smile,” said Ortega. “Teaching them new tricks, teaching them something different. So they can keep active and play a sport.”<\/p>\n

\n\tMany kids arrived to the event after their weekend soccer games in full uniform with cleats and shin guards.<\/p>\n

\n\tParents got to join in on the fun Saturday, encouraging their children from the sidelines, and everyone who arrived was enrolled in a raffle. The family friendly atmosphere of the event was liked by many parents and helped liven up the Futboleros' performance.<\/p>\n

\n\t“It’s great for the kids. Instead of them playing video games and gaining weight,” said Jose Munoz. “I like the exercise part about it. That’s why I’m here.”<\/p>\n

\n\tMunoz attended the event with his son Esteban who had just finished a game earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe soccer clinic held by the Elks organization was a dual effort to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and illegal substances.<\/p>\n

\n\t“I tried to make this a say no to drugs soccer day,” said Keith Mitchell, who's the Elk chairmen in charge of hosting the event.<\/p>\n

\n\t“I think the Elks is a great organization,” said Ortega. “They have a great cause as far as saying no to drugs. They promote teen commitment and being here today is exciting to see all the different kids and families who come out to be a part of this. It’s an annual thing that I love getting invited to.”<\/p>\n

\n\tThe children who showed up engaged in a friendly shooting competition after the clinic was over and trophies were awarded.<\/p>\n

\n\t“I think it’s a great thing for the kids of Garden Grove and I thank whoever organized this,” said Munoz, whose son performed well in the clinics drills.<\/p>\n

\n\tNext Sunday, the Garden Grove Elks host the Orange Coast District ‘Olympic Games, which will have Elks clubs from neighboring cities in attendance. The event will consist of competitions such as free throw shooting and other family friendly games.
