BY TED APODACA: Garden Grove High jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back as the Argonauts defeated Rancho Alamitos, 20-5, in a Garden Grove League water polo match on Oct. 13 at Garden Grove High.
The Argonauts were led by Dillon Janocha, who had five goals, and Nick Zannitto who added three. Argonauts goalie Jared Gwynn was credited with 15 saves to anchor the defense. Janocha scored the Argonauts’ first two goals to give Garden Grove a 2-0 lead, just two-and-a-half minutes into the match.

Zannitto, Kyle Deagan and Josh Bravo would each add goals to push the Garden Grove lead to 5-0. Rancho held briefly at that point, cutting the lead to 5-2 early in the second quarter. Jorge Lopez scored for the Vaqueros at the 4:53 mark of the second quarter to cut the lead to 5-2. Lopez led the Vaqueros with two goals.
But Garden Grove would regain control of the match and pull away from Rancho Alamitos. Bravo finished with two goals, while eight other Argonauts each scored a goal.
