Even when the Mariners fall short, it's not by much.

Pacifica High’s softball team reached the semifinals of the Best of the West Tournament before falling to eventual champion Mission Viejo on Saturday at Pacifica High.

The Mariners, with a 6-4 record on the season, reached the semifinals with a 6-0 win over Murrieta Mesa on March 11. On Saturday, the Mariners had four hits to the Diablos’ three, but could not push a run across as they fell to Mission Viejo, 2-0.
