Santiago secures big win

BY TED APODACA: The Santiago High softball team rallied in the late innings to open the Garden Grove League with a 6-2 win at La Quinta High last week.

Freshman pitcher Renamarie Rocha pitched a complete game with just four hits allowed and both runs coming in unearned. She also struck out six batters. The Cavaliers trailed 2-1 after three innings, but rallied in the final three innings.

Senior Topanga Gonzalez had a hit and two RBIs and senior Makayla Peralta went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Senior Hailey Komadina had a hit and an RBI. Sophomore Katherine Sua scored two runs.

Santiago finished third in league last year at 6-4, one game behind La Quinta, while Garden Grove won the league title at 10-0. Santiago followed up its win over La Quinta with a close 3-0 loss to Garden Grove last Thursday.

The Cavaliers will play at Rancho Alamitos on Thursday, April 6, at 3 p.m.
