CIF recently announced the best of the best, also known as the All-State selections.

As expected few players received the honor, and as expected, most honored played for the Pacifica High softball team. To be honest, all of the selections played for the powerhouse program from Garden Grove that assembled an entire roster of worthy picks.

In all, the Mariners produced two players who made the All-State Softball First Team.

Pitcher Kaylee Carlson was a sure bet to make the team. After all, she achieved the honor as a junior and just missed the coveted State Player of the Year Award. She ended her senior season with a 23-5 record, .55 ERA and five shutouts in the CIF-Division-I playoffs. She will attend North Carolina – and not just because of her arm, but also because she maintained a 4.10 GPA and received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence.

Her teammate Nicole Dewitt landed a spot on the first team as well. Dewitt, an infielder headed to Florida, finished the season with a .398 average, a whopping five homers and 22 RBI. These statistics – as well as her mental toughness – led to her being named the CIF Division-I Player of the Year.

Pacifica's Brooke Marquez made the second team.

No player from a Garden Grove or Westminster high school made the All-State Baseball teams, which included a first team, second team, third team, as well as a medium and small school team.
