Argonauts stay undefeated in league

The Garden Grove Argonauts boys’ volleyball team snuck out with the win to stay undefeated in league play against the Bolsa Grande Matadors in the best of five games, 3-2.

The Argonauts were on the verge of defeat but came all the way back to win the match. The Matadors dominated most of the game but could not hold off the surge from the Argonauts.

The Argonauts were on the verge of defeat but came all the way back to win the match. The Matadors dominated most of the game but could not hold off the surge from the Argonauts.

In game five, the Argonauts match the Matadors point by point when finally the Argonauts got a run to widen the lead. The game was tied when they got a 5-0 run to make it a 10-6 lead for the Argonauts, but the Matadors crawled back little by little and then failed to catch them losing the final game 15-9. Four unforced errors for the Matadors ended their night with a lost that was tough to swallow.

The Argonauts were trailing the best of five games set 2-1 and came all the way back to win but it was not easy. The Argonauts had a chance win game two but the Matadors came storming back. Trailing by double digits the Matadors came back with defensive plays and kills after kills and the Argonauts had lost the lead and were panicking. The unforced errors by the Argonauts haunted them as they lost game two in a tie breaker, 26-24, and tie the set and one apiece.

In game three, the Matadors took it with ease 25-17 to lead the set 2-1. The Argonauts’ winning streak looked like it was coming to an end but in game four the Argonauts played their best of the match. The Argonauts got their composure back and settled down after they got the early lead.

The lead was short lived as the Matadors took advantage of the unforced errors and failed digs of the Argonauts. The Matadors were deadly in net play throughout the match but the Argonauts defense stepped up when it really counted. They got five blocks in game four that kept them alive in the match and eventually winning game four 25-18 to force game five.

Back in game one the Argonauts took the win, 25-19, with solid play on net. The kills came easily for the Argonauts to take the 1-0 lead in the set. With the win the Argonauts are now 9-0 in league play and hold sole position of first place in the standings.
