The Garden Grove High School boys water polo team suffered a 7-2 loss Saturday against Valley water polo club in the Fullerton Hills summer series at Garden Grove High.
Valley went up early in the first period, netting three goals. The Argos never found a way back after that.
A win did not come without a fight, however, with the Argos' offense pressuring Valley throughout the contest. The pressure created counter-attack opportunities for Garden Grove, but many of those chances went awry.

The deciding factor in the match was Valley’s man in goal, Jeffrey Davis. He looked like an iron wall between the posts denying many go-ahead chances for the Argonauts.
Davis showed off his stopping skills after denying a one-on-one chance from Garden Grove’s Jerred Gwyn. A well-judged lob pass to open water found Jarred Gwyn racing to Valley’s goal.
Gwyn did everything right. He swam his heart out, positioned himself to score, and rose a couple feet out of the water to shoot. Davis just had the reflexes to stick his hand out and deny Gwyn’s side a goal.
Most of Garden Grove’s chances ended with a Davis stop; except for two, of course.
It took a shot from five meters for Garden Grove to get on the scoresheet. Their second goal came from a perfectly timed backhand shot by the center man.
Due to a mix up by the officials, the game had to end at the beginning of the fourth period on time limit. The Garden Grove squad and fans raised their hands in frustration pleading for a proper finish to the game.
“They should let the boys play the last period and then be done with it,” said a parent in the bleachers.
Garden Grove’s coach asked for a final period but the next teams were on already warming up for the next game of the series. The Argos finished off the series Sunday.
