The 46th annual 605 All-Star football game, which featured some of the best local players, unfolded at Cerritos College earlier this month. Representatives from the West team battled the East, which eventually emerged with a 28-21 victory in the second overtime period.

Players from the West hailed from several local schools, such as Garden Grove High, Cypress, Buena Park and Paramount High.

Despite the final score, the West, which was coached by Buena Park head coach Anthony White, took a commanding advantage, leading by a pair of touchdowns twice.

For just the third time in the 46 year history of the 605 All-Star Football Game, four quarters wasn’t enough to decide the outcome of the annual rivalry game. The Moore League-loaded West took a 21-7 lead, but the East stormed back to tie it at 21, and then scored the only points in two overtime periods, to win 28-21.

In the first quarter, West’s Tonny Lindsey scored a 6-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. He then added another with a 24-yard effort to make it 14-0 before the end of the quarter.

The East responded, scoring on a 10-yard run by quarterback Chris d’Entremont to cut the deficit in half before the halftime break, but the West struck again in the third quarter. This time Paramount’s Deonte Dixon did the deed, notching a 1-yard score to make it 21-7.

However, the West failed to hold the East in the fourth quarter as it delivered a pair of scores. In the first overtime, the West had a chance to score but Paramount kicker Brian Velez missed a 40-yard field goal. The East eventually won the game when Orange Lutheran’s Tavi Jimmerson ran in a 7-yard score in the second overtime period.

The West team’s roster featured a handful of local players, most of them from Buena Park High. This list includes defensive tackle Maze Masoe (Garden Grove High), defensive back Hakeem Williams (Buena Park), cornerback Darlvon Nolan (Cypress), safety Drake Keiler (Buena Park) and Taylon Scott (Buena Park).
