The Garden Grove Unified School District held its annual Honor Orchestra Concert last week in the Don Wash Memorial Auditorium, 11271 Stanford Ave. in Garden Grove.
This year, for the first time, the elementary school and intermediate school Honor Orchestras were also included in the annual high school Honor Orchestra concert performance.

This was a concert that left music appreciators wanting more, as student-musicians carefully followed their instructors' direction, performing excellent musical renditions of "Spring from the Four Seasons," "Fiddles on Fire," Ludwig van Beethoven's "Allegro con Brio," and "Bailes Para Orquesta,"
Students at the elementary and intermediate level auditioned for their individual teachers on the chosen music for the program; then in turn, those teachers selected the students who were the most successful in the auditions.
At the high school level, students are selected by their music teachers. That is, once a student has expressed an interest in being in the Honor Orchestra.
Students are judged by their year-long performance abilities and the same process is also used for the honor bands.
More than 200 district student musicians gathered to perform in the combined Honor Orchestras, representing the top string students from grades 5 through 12.
The Garden Grove Unified School District encompasses 28-square-miles, serving most of Garden Grove and portions of Stanton, Westminster, Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley and Santa Ana.
With 47,960 students, the district is the third largest amongst 28 public school districts in Orange County and the district employs more than 5,000 staff members and operates 70 schools: 47 elementary, 10 intermediate, seven high schools, two continuation schools, two adult education centers and two special education schools.
The Garden Grove Union High School District was established in 1921 in response to attempts by neighboring school districts to annex the Garden Grove area.
Garden Grove High School opened its doors in September 1921 in temporary facilities and then the school moved to its present location on Stanford Avenue in 1923.
