BY TONY CHEONG: We hear plenty in the news these days about police-officer-involved shootings.
We see protests in Ferguson, Baltimore, New York and countless other places.
We simplify the issue; we argue about whether police are wrong or right, good or bad.
We argue about whose lives matter.
It’s more complicated than that, of course, but it’s a worthwhile discussion to have.
Just not today. At least for me.

My wish is that we, as a community, can come together and pay respects to the five officers who died in the line of duty while serving and protecting Garden Grove.
Sgt. Myron L. Trapp.
Officer Andy Reese.
Officer Donald E. Reed.
Officer Michael Rainford.
Master Officer Howard Dallies.
These were good men doing their duty. If you visit the sad but magnificent memorial in front of the Garden Grove police station, you’ll learn a bit about them.
The memorial will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, May 19, in front of the police station, 11301 Acacia Parkway in Garden Grove.
It will be a somber but important day.
A day that we can unite and let everyone know that these fallen officers are gone.
Gone but not forgotten.
