The Garden Grove Elks Lodge held its annual Family Fun Day for the developmentally disabled having Down Syndrome.

The event, held in Elks Park directly behind the Lodge, was the ideal venue for this day of fun. Even the weather cooperated with lower than normal temperatures.

The fun day included activities for the kids such as ladder ball, T-ball, slides dancing to their own DJ, clowns doing face painting, food, drinks and the Summer Santas. About 150 participants took advantage of the fun along with their parents and/or guardians. The 50 or so Garden Grove Elks and the members of a Down Syndrome of Orange County in attendance who staged the event also had a great time while helping the kids.

In the early afternoon, the guests were treated to “Pizza by Pedro,” probably the best pizza anyone ever tasted from the lodge’s kitchen and head chef. For those who couldn’t or wouldn’t eat pizza, there were taquitos, fruit and veggie trays and of course soft drinks for all.

This event was organized by Elks Karen Lewin, Jack Whitwam, Down Syndrome Association of Orange County President Kellie Perez and Administrative Assistant Ali Fowler.
