One More Productions recently sent out a press release that made an important announcement in regards to the defunct Gem Theater.

Guess what? It might be opening soon.

Though the managing production company admitted no opening night or production has been scheduled as of yet, the Gem Theater has been rebuilt and could soon be staging productions in the near future.

“We are not ready to announce an official opening date yet as work continues to be done on the building,” the production company said on its website. “However, we are happy to report that great progress has been made and the theater has never looked better. Some of the improvements include new flooring, paint, doors, and a new state-of-the-art lighting system.”

In May 2011, the Gem Theater was damaged when a fire broke out in the costume shop. The disaster struck just before One More Productions could open its version of "Chicago." Local theater companies kept the production alive at the Gem by creating costumes, but eventually the show had to move to the Festival Amphitheater in Garden Grove, where the show ran for two more weeks before closing.

The Gem Theater has been under renovations for the last two years. The green room has been rebuilt. Other additions include new flooring, paint, doors, and a state-of-the-art lighting system.

The Gem Theater is located at 12852 Main St. in Garden Grove. The theater is a 158-seat venue owned by the city of Garden Grove and under the management of One More Productions.
