The Mariners have captured the Empire League title for the last five years. This year they finished the season with an impressive 24-5 overall record and 11-1 mark in league play.

Pacifica failed to dent the board against Yorba Linda, which finished in second place, during the first two innings, which ended in a scoreless tie. However, the Mariners, who finished with nine hits, posted four runs in the top of the third and another in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

Nicole DeWitt, who finished the season with a .446 batting average, topped the team with three hits, which included a double. She also scored a pair of runs and knocked in another.

Rebecca Lee, who owns a .506 batting average, went 2-for-3. She also scored a run, stole a base, doubled and recorded a trio of RBI. Lee also made nine defensive outs, which included all three in the sixth inning.

Ace pitcher Kaylee Carlson, who recently tossed a perfect game, ended the regular season with a 16-0 record. She also finished the year with nine shutouts, 105 strikeouts, a pair of no-hitters and a 0.36 ERA. Carlson, who only allowed eight runs over the course of 17 appearances and 96 innings, struck out four, walked two, and allowed eight hits against Yorba Linda.

The Mariners will now enter the postseason. Last year, they fell to cross-town opponent and CIF runner-up Santiago by the score of 4-3 in a heart-braking, third-round loss.

Garden Grove High will also compete in the postseason. The team captured the Golden West League title with a 9-1 record.
