One hundred members from theIt was a night to be remembered as the Blue Jays scored the first two runs, leaving the Angels in their dust, but the Angels rallied and won the game 7 to 5.
Pre-game ceremonies recognized the church, with the Garden Grove church’s name listed on the scoreboard. The post-game fireworks show was a big hit.
Tickets were discounted to $13, down from $22, which made the event more affordable for families to attend, which they did, and Website purchases made it so that stake members could sit together in Angels Stadium.
Before the game, the group met for a tailgating party under the Big A, where Chef Mark Freeman, who coordinated the event, served up hamburgers, bacon-wrapped hot dogs and tri-tip steak. Sodas and bottled water were also provided and each family provided a side dish of their choosing.
Freeman said he does activities for the Elder's Quorum, which is a group for men in the church who are generally ages 18 to 40, depending on their individual church callings.
The Mormon Family Night at the baseball game is for church members throughout Southern California. However, this is the first time out of the 16 years the event has been held that the Garden Grove 6th Ward has attended.
Mormon Night Honorary Bat Kid was Anthony Garcia, Honorary 1st Pitch Mitchell Brady, Honorary Play Ball was Mason Saylors and Steal the 3rd base was Andrew Dorado.
