There will be an Association of Naval Aviation Luncheon with a presentation by Major Aaron C. Schilleci, California Army National Guard at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at Elks Lodge #1952, 11551 Trask Ave. in Garden Grove.
Major Schilleci will brief the group on the battle of Baqubah as viewed by him while serving with the 1-82nd Attack Reconnaissance Battalion during the 2007 surge in Iraq.
Major Schilleci flew more than 350 attack reconnaissance missions in the AH-64D Apache Longbow Attack Helicopter in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan during his seven years stationed with the 1st Attack Recon Battalion, 82nd Aviation Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Born locally in Tarzana, Major Schilleci was raised and attended high school in Southern California. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the UCLA Army ROTC program in 2001 and was selected and assessed into Initial Entry Rotary Wing Flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
After completing the AH-64A Apache course, Major Schilleci earned his wings and was assigned to (then) 3rd Attack Battalion, 229th Aviation Regiment at Fort Bragg, NC. To date, Major Schilleci has flown over 1,000 combat hours and over 1,800 hours of total flight time.
Major Schilleci is also a recent graduate of the U.S. Army Command General and Staff College and the Northwestern University Master’s of Public Policy Program.
He is currently assigned locally at Los Alamitos Army Airfield in Orange County.
