Yes, goblins.

Yes, horror films.

Candy? Of course!

That's all well and good, but my favorite part of Halloween is… pumpkins.

Maybe it all started with "The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown," in which Linus sits in a pumpkin patch late into the night waiting for the Great Pumpkin to arrive.

If I could go back in time, and if I wasn't talking about a cartoon character, I would sit in that patch with Linus.  Although, if it got cold enough, I'd probably poach his blankie.

As it stands, it turns out that Linus' pumpkin patch doesn't exist, nor does the Great Pumpkin.

But I've got good news for you: there is a place to find pumpkins right here in our area.

It’s at the Westminster Mall; there are hundreds of pumpkins, in all shapes and sizes.  It’s a great place to take your family because it also has rides and a petting zoo. It’s called the Pumpkin Factory, and it just opened on Sunday. For more information, call 805-294-3654.

Further, I've come up with my own idea this year, and I think you're going to like it.  During this crazy election year, I know a lot of people — parents and children —  will be carving their pumpkins into likenesses of presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

If you're one of those people, send a picture of your pumpkin in JPEG format to tonyontown@yahoo.com.

Yep, this is my own personal pumpkin contest. I will look at the pictures of your pumpkins and publish the best Trump pumpkin and the best Hillary pumpkin. Of course, the caveat is that it's all subjective. I'll try to be fair, but I'll choose the pumpkins that I think show the greatest resemblance to these candidates.

Look for the pictures in the newspaper the last edition before Halloween.
