There are those who talk and those who do.

This guys is a doer.

In fact, he volunteers or so many different groups that it seems as if he’s been cloned and there are 12 o him. I mean, he’s everywhere.

And for that, Garden Grove resident Scott Weimer has been named “Citizen of the Year” by the Garden Grove Elks.

Exalted Ruler Rick Ross presented Weimer with the award recently. Weimer was lauded for his outstanding service to the community since his move to Garden Grove in 1967.

Weimer’s local involvement include past director of the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce, past president of Rotary International, past president of the  Downtown Garden Grove Business Association, current director of the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival, current vice-chair of the Hoag Foundation/ GG Boy’s and Girl’s Club, current treasurer of the Central Orange County Foundation and is currently an Orange County Real Property Assessment Appeals Officer. These are only some of his local accomplishment.

“I’ve been in this town since I was a kid and all I ever do by volunteering is just try to do my part, which I consider everyone’s duty,” Weimer said. “You can’t just take, take, take. You’ve got to give back to your community.”

Weimer graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1974 and became a Garden Grove firefighter in 1976 and in 2006 was named “Firefighter of the Year.” During his tenure with the department Weimer functioned as a paramedic and later as the director of training.
