The Garden Grove Fire Department is once again taking a proactive approach to public safety in regards to fireworks and the Fourth of July.

The department’s fire investigation team is currently watching different channels of sales for illegal fireworks. Due to electronic monitoring by fire investigators, the fire and police departments were able to arrest a resident for manufacturing and distributing nearly 1,000 pounds of dangerous fireworks last year. The department will also be presenting regular safety messages through a public service announcement and all of its media channels.
Safe and sane fireworks are being sold in Garden Grove this year. The vendors are going through strict guidelines established by the fire department to ensure the safe handling and sales of fireworks. Fire fighters will be surveying their areas for illegal firework use, with increased staffing on the holiday.
“The Fourth of July is a special occasion, and we want to make sure everyone enjoys it safely. The last thing we want to see is someone get hurt or have their home damaged by fire. Stay safe, and enjoy this great holiday,” said Fire Chief Tom Schultz.
People caught with or using illegal fireworks may be cited up to $1,000 by the Police Department. Anyone that finds illegal fireworks can bring it to fire department headquarters at 11301 Acacia Parkway any day. Fire Station 4 at 12191 Valley View St. will also be open for drop-offs on July 4th.
