The Historic Gem Theatre in Garden Grove hosted a well-attended "Sweeney Todd" cast party recently.

When walking into the charming Gem theatre, one feels the artistic vibes oozing  from every corner and space of the refurbished vintage landmark theatre.

The  exciting  buzz of the attendees seemed to echo throughout the intimate lobby, as wine and delicious hors d’oeuvres were served for the guests in beautifully displayed containers.

In the lobby were show costumes on display, and a makeup artist doing specialty makeup to give the attendees behind the scenes tricks-of-the trade. One could even take a photo in the barber chair.

After an hour of conversation, invited guests were ushered into the theatre for a  sneak preview. On stage were the founders of "One More Productions": the multi-talented Jack-of-all trades, Damien Lorton,  who oversees almost everything from directing to musical direction and staging; and the unbelievably talented Nicole Cassesso,  who takes care of behind-the-scenes business dealings and uses her charm on the telephone calling up donors or just ordering materials.

One more Productions was founded in 2004 and found a permanent home at the historic Gem Theatre in 2008. Both are committed to making the theatre become a landmark for great musical productions.

One More Productions is not your typical repertory theatre company, but a production company that mounts, stages and produces theatre at a professional level and affordable cost.

A musical theatre "Summer at the Gem" has caught the eye of many talented  young actors and actresses to develop  acting  and vocal skills and to improve their overall performances.

Lorton took the lead in introducing the talented cast of Sweeney Todd. The overall resume of the cast was so impressive it makes one want to support this theatre more by spreading the word and getting donors to support the arts.

Sweeney Todd has become a worldwide success since being awarded  eight Tonys, including Best Musical. Stephen and Hugh Wheeler crafted a tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat that has simultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences all over the world.

The budget for this production is in the $60-70,000 range.

Sweeney Todd is showing through Sunday, Oct. 23.
