During the Garden Grove City Council "Community Spotlight" recently, college graduates were honored according to Ana Pulido with the Office of Community Relations.
"This is the second year the city has honored Garden Grove higher learning graduates," said Ana Pulido, with the Office of Community Relations. "A total of 21 graduates responded to the invitation, with 16 in attendance."

Jessica Gonzalez Verdugo, West Coast University, BA in nursing; Katrina Ann Lindsay, Texas A&M University, DVM doctor of veterinary medicine;
Rogelia Martinez-Sweeney, Chapman University-Brandman, B.A. in sociology with an emphasis in social work; Liliana Izdrea, Bristol University, B.A. in hospitality operations with honors; Pierre Pham, California State University, Fullerton, BA in criminal justice; Monica Nguyen, Chapman University, B.S. in biological sciences and BA in French; Christopher R. Palm, Cal Poly Pomona, BS in physics and philosophy; Sarah Anvari, California State University, Long Beach, B.A. in anthropology; Duy Bui, Golden Gate University, masters in business administration; Bree Morse, California State University, Long Beach, B.S. in business marketing; Raquel Zamora, California State University, Fullerton, B.A. in psychology;
Elizabeth Gonzalez, California State University, Fullerton, B.A. in communications; and Michael Tyler, Brannan Westmont College, BS in physics and mathematics.
"Prior to the Community Spotlight, students and their families were treated to a reception hosted by Mayor Bruce Broadwater and City Council members," Pulido said, explaining that each graduate was presented with a crystal gift and certificate from the city of Garden Grove along with certificates from the offices of Senator Lou Correa, Assemblyman Tom Daly and County Supervisor Janet Nguyen.
Graduates and their families had the opportunity to have their picture taken with Mayor Broadwater and council members.
During the reception, an Apple iPad Air, a $300 Target gift certificate and a $100 bill were raffled to three lucky graduates.
Pulido said that one graduate, Pierre Pham, was honored posthumously because he was killed in a motorcycle accident this year.
Also, the April 22 City Council meeting was adjourned in honor of Jerry Margolin, whose family spearheaded the Miss Garden Grove Strawberry Festival for many years.
The Margolin family has asked that donations be made to Acacia Adult Day Services or the Miss Garden Grove Scholarship Pageant in lieu of flowers.
