A student has been detained by Garden Grove police after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to Jordan Intermediate School on Monday.

The suspect was arrested and later booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall on weapons charges.

On Monday morning, officers were sent to Jordan Intermediate School regarding a report of a student in the classroom who had a loaded gun in his backpack. Officers detained the student and found a loaded, Colt Mark IV, .38 caliber, semi-automatic handgun, black with wood grips in his backpack.

The gun had no magazine in it, but the suspect had a loaded magazine in his front pants pocket. The gun was properly registered to a family member that lives with the suspect.

A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s residence. Investigators seized an additional .22 caliber Ruger rifle at the home. That rifle was seized because it was not properly registered.

There were four other students at the school that saw the handgun in the student's possession who did not report it to staff. It is unclear who did report it to stuff. One of the students who didn't report it was a transfer student. That student is being transferred back to his original school campus. The other three students were suspended by the school and have been referred to the disciplinary committee for action. Those three will not return to Jordan Intermediate School either.

No other information was given about the suspect.
