Pacifica tops Cypress in softball action

The Pacifica High softball team bested Cypress in Empire League play on Thursday, April 11. The Mariners posted an 8-3 victory to do the deed.

The Mariners (17-5, 4-1) stayed in second place in the league standings with the win. Yorba Linda occupies the top spot in the standings with a 5-0 mark. The Centurions (14-4-1, 3-2) are in third place and on track to snag a playoff spot.

Pacifica’s Rebecca Lee went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI. Nicole DeWitt finished 2-for-3 with a walk as well as three runs scored. She also clubbed a home run and two RBI. 

Faith Canfield also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

On the mound, Pacifica pitcher Kaylee Carlson threw six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, four walks and struck out nine for the win. She improved her record to 10-0.

Katya Duvall, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, also tossed an inning, earning the save but allowing all three of the Centurions runs.

Pacifica jumped ahead by scoring one run in the second and two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead. It then added two more in the fifth and three in the sixth, finishing with 12 hits.

The Centurions ended with eight hits. Ariel Braxton and Kacey Whitney both delivered a pair of hits. Additionally, Holiday Cahill smacked a double and knocked in three RBI.

Cypress pitcher Ashley Rose suffered the loss, throwing 5 2-3 innings. She was relieved by Sarah Hamre, who allowed no runs.
