Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, who represents Stanton and many other cities, has presented a $5,000 educational grant to St. Polycarp Catholic School in Stanton on behalf of the Barona Band of Mission Indians.
Earlier this year Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva nominated St. Polycarp School for the grant, which will be used to update the school’s technology equipment.
“With these new funds St. Polycarp students will have access to laptops and software packs that will help them build the 21st century skill sets that are so crucial in today’s workforce,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “One of California’s greatest resources are our students, we need to make sure they are receiving the tools they need to succeed in the future.”
St. Polycarp Catholic School serves children from junior kindergarten to 8th grade. The school is located in Stanton and has been operating since 1959.
Principal Theresa Wyles said she was grateful to have partners in the community committed to excellence in education.
“We are thankful to the Barona Band of Mission Indians for their generosity to our students and to Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva for her support in the Barona Education Grant process.”
The Barona Band education grant is awarded to one school in each legislative district. Legislators must then endorse the school’s application for the grant to be awarded.
