Vaccine clinic draws 1,200

On Friday, October 12, Supervisor Janet Nguyen, who represents Garden Grove and Westminster, partnered with the Orange County Health Care Agency and Public Health Nurses to host a free 2012 seasonal flu vaccine clinic.

The event, held at the County Community Service Center in the city of Westminster, welcomed over 1,200 residents who lined up to receive this preventive vaccination at no cost. 

On Friday, October 12, Supervisor Janet Nguyen, who represents Garden Grove and Westminster, partnered with the Orange County Health Care Agency and Public Health Nurses to host a free 2012 seasonal flu vaccine clinic.

The event, held at the County Community Service Center in the city of Westminster, welcomed over 1,200 residents who lined up to receive this preventive vaccination at no cost. 

During the seven hour event, public health nurses administered flu shots and flu mist to adults, seniors, and children 3-years of age and older. The shots were dispensed on a first come first-come, first-served basis.

“I am pleased that we were able to offer these vaccines to the public so that our residents can be better prepared for the upcoming flu season,” said Supervisor Janet Nguyen. “I would like to thank the Health Care Agency, the public health nurses and residents who came out today for helping to create a better and healthier Orange County.” 

Commonly referred to as the flu, influenza can cause serious illness especially in young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and persons of any age with serious medical conditions. Influenza is responsible for thousands of hospitalizations in Orange County that may have been prevented through the timely administration of a flu shot.
