Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center was named among the “100 Top Hospitals” in the nation by Truven Health Analytics based on quality of care and patient satisfaction. Truven Health Analytics is a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

This is the third year in a row that Garden Grove Hospital has been recognized as a Top 100 Hospital.

“This recognition reflects the outstanding hard work, dedication and excellent patient care that our hospital provides,” said Hassan Alkhouli, M.D., chief medical officer at Garden Grove Hospital. “We are proud to be acknowledged as a leader in health care with this prestigious award.”

Eight of the 10 California community hospitals that earned this distinction were Prime Healthcare hospitals. Prime Healthcare hospitals have earned this recognition 27 times since 2003. Garden Grove Hospital has been part of the Prime Healthcare system since 2008.

“This unbiased and peer-reviewed study recognizes that Garden Grove Hospital is committed to providing top quality healthcare,” said Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, chairman, president and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services. “I congratulate the physicians, nurses and staff at Garden Grove Hospital for their dedication in meeting the highest standards of quality care in the country. Our goal is to have every Prime Healthcare hospital achieve this excellence.”

According to Truven Health Analytics, award winners demonstrate that high-quality patient outcomes can be achieved while improving efficiency. If all hospitals across the nation performed at the same level as the “100 Top Hospitals” award winners:

— Nearly 165,000 additional lives could be saved.

–Nearly 90,000 additional patients could be complication-free.

–More than $5.4 billion could be saved.

–The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.

“This year’s 100 Top Hospitals represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management today. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow — consistently delivering outstanding quality of care, satisfaction, and community value at a reasonable cost,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and the 100 Top Hospitals program at Truven Health Analytics. “The majority of the 2014 award winners have produced year-to-year performance improvement, as well. This speaks to the consistent focus on excellence by the entire organization and the men and women who serve patients.”

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard. The study evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality; inpatient complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; and post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

The study evaluated 2,803 short-term, acute-care, non-federal hospitals. The study used public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.
