It's official: the California state average for a gallon of gasoline has never been higher.
GasBuddy data indicated California hit a new record high earlier this week, edging out the previous record high of $4.588/gal on June 15, 2008.

Individual cities and counties have also set record highs, including Orange County, Riverside, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Ventura and San Francisco. Other cities and counties are close to alltime highs but have not yet surpassed them.
“Prices at retail stations have skyrocketed in the last few days across all of California,” said Patrick DeHaan, Senior Petroleum Analyst for GasBuddy.com.
California motorists will likely see relief starting early-to-mid week next week, but until then, retail prices may continue to climb slightly over the weekend.
