Just call her The Voice… of Garden Grove

At Garden Grove’s final summer concert last week, the winner of The Voice of Garden Grove was chosen among five Garden Grove Unified School District high school students.

Kayla Renee Wandelt, a junior from Pacifica High School, was announced The Voice of Garden Grove 2016 and awarded a $1,000 prize, half of which will go to Pacifica High School’s Choir Department. The winning song was “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals.

Caitlin Doan, from Rancho Alamitos High School, was announced runner-up and received a $500 prize, half of which will go towards Rancho Alamitos High School’s Choir Department. Doan performed “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.

The students were scored on a 100-point scale by six volunteer judges including professional singers and vocalist trainers.

 The Voice of Garden Grove is a preshow to the free Summer Concert Series hosted by the Garden Grove Community Foundation (GGCF), held at Eastgate Park, 12001 St. Mark St., during the months of July and August. The Voice of Garden Grove is a way for GGCF to support education and the arts in the community, and provide performance and scholarship opportunities to local high school students.
