The City of Stanton has named a new commissioner, who was announced Tuesday, May 12, during a City Council meeting.
Adam Ontiveros will serve as a recreation commissioner after being unanimously selected by five council members.
"I am humbled and honored," said Ontiveros, of his appointment.
Ontiveros said he is a 34-year resident of Stanton, with family ties that go back 30 years in the city.

Ontiveros said he is a 34-year resident of Stanton, with family ties that go back 30 years in the city.
He has been employed by the Orange County Public Works in operations and maintenance for 15 years, where he has served in a Supervisor I position for the past six years.
Long-time Commission Member Jim Nelson was Ontiveros' motivation to fill out an application for the vacant commissioner's seat.
"Jim encouraged me to get more involved," said Ontiveros.
"Recently, when I participated in the annual car show, I knew I needed to get involved in the community for my family," Ontiveros said. "I knew this would benefit my children as well and I feel I can bring a younger perspective to the commission," he said.
"I have been a homeowner for 10 years and I have the integrity and morals that I know will benefit the Stanton community."
Recently, Ontiveros was instrumental in helping with the 2015 Annual Car Show in Stanton, bringing in 24 vintage vehicles and more than 12 motorcycles furnished by car and cycle enthusiasts.
Ontiveros said their car group is really just families who get together because they enjoy fishing and camping.
"We're the 'Stanton Chapter,' which is a mixture of cars and bikes," he said.
The Parks and Recreation Commission is a seven-member commission that meets once a month in an advisory capacity to City Council and city staff in areas of development and rehabilitation of parks and recreation facilities, recreation and youth services, senior center and human services, cultural arts service, neighborhood improvements, grants and other funding, and other matters referred to the commission by council.
Ontiveros said even before filling out a commission application, he was involved in several civic activities, which included the rehabilitation of Hollenbeck Park as well as maintenance of the park when Stanton was going through a difficult fiscal year.
The commission is a non-paid/volunteer position and the person applying for the position must be a Stanton resident and a registered voter.
Ontiveros was recommended to serve on the commission by Mayor Al Ethans.
