Six students in three different schools in Garden Grove took home top honors for their artistic endeavors Sunday afternoon.
The event was part of the annual Festival of Arts/PIMCO Foundation awards ceremony in Laguna Beach.
Nearly 85 students from throughout Orange County, received gold, silver and bronze medals, awarded in three categories: photography and two-and-three dimensional artwork. Sunday's recipients were selected from the top 300 students, who were chosen from 6,000 students who entered the competition.
There were honorable mentions for postcard artists as well.
Garden Grove winners were: Raymond Lam, from Lawrence Elementary School, who received a bronze for his "Martin Luther King" art; three Patton Elementary School students won awards: they were Kaitlyn Nguyen, for her "Pearl Magnificent," Kayli Counts, for "Color Turtle," and Samantha Ghobrial for "Blue Jay Beauty;" and Samantha was also a postcard artist; Jessica Bui from Carrillo Elementary School in Garden Grove received a bronze for her "Look at Me" art piece and Justina Bui was one of the postcard artists with her "Ginger Jar."
There was one winner from Westminster; that was Judy Nguyen, a 12th grader at La Quinta High School in Westminster; she received a "Silver Medal" for her "Mickey and Minnie" photo.
All artwork is being displayed through the end of August at the Junior Art Exhibit in Laguna Beach, at 650 Laguna Canyon Rd.
After the awards were presented and group-photos taken of the students, they were treated to ice cream and drinks from Gina's, located on Pacific Coast Highway.
