The County Community Service Center was the site of a recent Flu Vaccine Day, co-hosted by Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen, who represents Garden Grove, and the Orange County Health Care Agency.

By day’s end, more than 1,000 residents had received free flu shots.

“As a county, administering flu vaccines is important because we maintain a healthier population and minimize the number of avoidable flu-related hospitalizations, which in turn cost taxpayers thousands of dollars,” said Nguyen.

During the six-hour long event, public health nurses administered flu shots and flu nasal spray at no cost to attendees. Receiving flu shots is particularly important for children, adults older than 50 and for those with chronic conditions who are more likely to become affected by the flu.

“I advise all those residents that haven’t had their flu shot to do so,” said Nguyen. “Getting your flu shot not only protects you but also those whom you come in contact with on a daily basis.”
