More than 20 trees were felled and several areas flooded in Garden Grove during a heavy rainstorm last Friday.
The city activated an emergency operation at 4 p.m. Led by the fire chief, the city’s department heads coordinated police, fire and public works officials to help shut down deluged streets, distribute sandbags, clear channels of debris and remove trees from streets.
By 4:30 p.m., more than a dozen trees had been removed from Dover Shores and other areas in the city.

Rich Gosselin, supervisor for Garden Grove’s tree-removal and flood-control teams, said that during a major storm, workers sometimes spend 18 hours on the clock.
Most Orange County Fire Authority stations have empty sandbags available in case of another storm.
Sandbags are available at Fire Station No. 2, 11805 Gilbert St.; Fire Station No. 3, 12132 Trask Ave.; and Fire Station No. 4, 12191 Valley View St, all in Garden Grove. Proof of residency may be requested.
