The spirit of Christmas was alive and well last week as State Sen. Janet Nguyen, who represents Garden Grove and Westminster, distributed toys to the children of military families as part of the 34th District Veterans and Military Families Toy Drive.

“I was truly amazed to see the amount of community support that went into making this Toy Drive such a wonderful success,” said Nguyen. “Our military service members and their families have sacrificed so much for this nation, and I am proud that we were able to show them our appreciation through this great event.”

The toy distribution took place from 3 to 7 p.m. at Nguyen’s district office where she, along with volunteers, staff, local non-profits and organizations, handed out over 300 toys to the children of veteran and military families.

The Toy Drive was made possible by donations from residents of the 34th District, as well as organizations such as Wells Fargo, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, Strong Families, Strong Children, Military Children’s Collaborative Group and Don Juan Avila Middle School.

“I could not have asked from a more generous response from the community,” said Nguyen. “I sincerely hope that the toys the children received will fill their holiday season with cheer and convey our gratitude to those who are both serving and who have served to protect our nation’s liberties.”

Nguyen partnered with Active Duty Families, Veterans Legal Institute, Veterans First, Families Forward, Strong Families, Strong Children, and Volunteers of America to make this day of giving a reality.
