Garden Grove’s sweet celebration of senior volunteerism, the Strawberry Ball, marks its 40th anniversary this year.

Hosted by the City of Garden Grove Community Services Department, the gala will be held at the Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue, on May 21 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The special highlight of the gala is the introduction of the King and Queen of the Strawberry Ball, Hazlette "Tsuki" Tsukiyama, a volunteer for the Garden Grove Police Department, and Yolanda Montaño, from the H. Louis Lake Senior Center.

In addition to being the regal duo, they have each earned the titles of Senior Volunteer of the Year.  For 40 years, the City of Garden Grove has selected two special senior volunteers to be honored for the multitude of service hours each provided in and around the community with various organizations.

The Strawberry Ball is open to the public.  Tickets are $25 per person, and include a prime rib dinner and dancing, as well as music by the “5 Star Band.” Advance reservations are required.

For more information, call the H. Louis Lake Senior Center at 714-741-5253 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
