"We have lots of things coming up," said Recreation and Human Services Coordinator Juan Medina, with the Garden Grove Community Services Department. "Thursday, Jan. 29, is our Super Bowl party and our Valentine's Day Party is Wednesday, Feb. 11."

To start the year off, seniors were invited to wear their pajamas to a "PJ" party recently held at the center, where staff joined in, wearing their finest sleepwear too.

"We have lots of things coming up," said Recreation and Human Services Coordinator Juan Medina, with the Garden Grove Community Services Department. "Thursday, Jan. 29, is our Super Bowl party and our Valentine's Day Party is Wednesday, Feb. 11."

The Valentine Party is free at 10 a.m. and costs $10. The party goes from 6 to 10 p.m., where there will be dancing, food and entertainment by the live band, The Serenaders.

"We try to keep the seniors active," said Medina, "And we offer a transportation program for those Garden Grove residents who can't drive any longer."

Also, there's a Saint Patrick's Day Party planned for Tuesday, March 17, where entertainment is a "One-man band," and Easter is next on the docket, which will include an Easter Bunny for picture-taking in a specially-decorated location, which has been taking place for more nearly 25 years.

Last week's event was attended by nearly 100 seniors, ranging in age from 50 to 94, who seemed to be having fun playing Wii games; Family Feud, Pictionary and Bingo directed by staff Office Assistant Brianna Moore and Activity Coordinator Lori Ochoa.

There was a raffle, with $5 gift cards, Subway gift cards and there were appetizers, pizza bites, chips and dips, Danish and hot chocolate.

Dances are held once a month, on special occasions such as Mother's Day and other holiday events, according to Medina. "But every Wednesday is dance time from 10 a.m. to noon," he said.
