That’s what the Smithsons – Dave, Sandy and their three children – of Garden Grove like to do on MacMurray Street, where they have lived for years. Here’s a picture from one of their shows.

Plenty of Garden Grove neighborhoods throw block parties on Independence Day.

On the other hand, if you want to see an official show, your best bets are: 1) The Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, 11200 Lexington Drive, is holding a fireworks show starting at 9 p.m. The event is free; parking is $5. For more information, go to http://www.ci.los-alamitos.ca.us.; 2) Disney’s Celebrate America! This July 4 concert will be held at 9:30 p.m. at Disneyland at 1313 Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim.
