Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen attended the 35th annual Black History Parade & Cultural Faire in Anaheim last week.

February is Black History Month.

The event attracted thousands.

Some of those in attendance were the famed Soul Train dancers; Kathleen Bradley, the first African American to join the legendary ranks of Barker's Beauties on the famed television game show "The Price is Right";  Princess Tiana, the first black princess in the Disney framework; and former NASCAR driver Felix Giles, the first African American to race across the Baja 1000 Offroad Desert Race in Baja, Mexico.

Nguyen was elected mayor in November, beating former Mayor Bruce Broadwater in a tight race. Many say a large Vietnamese-American voting turnout is responsible for Nguyen's rise to the position of mayor.
